The Ritten is a sunny high plateau above Bolzano in South Tyrol. In the north it is overlooked by the Rittner Horn (2260 metres) at 1154 metres. The picturesque village is home to the Messner family, winegrowers and hosts with a passion. Below the centre of Oberbozen lies Spornberg once a nobleman?s and knight?s seat, later half-ruined. Many years later, the enchanted place was awakened from its slumber and filled with new life. The result is the Spornberg Mountain Living with three luxurious, cosy flats furnished in a typical country style. Nordberg (127 sqm), Ostberg (81 sqm), Westberg (66 sqm) offer space for up to five guests, have a terrace, private sauna and a fully equipped kitchen. Surrounded by vines, meadows and mountains, they offer a wonderful home away from home and include a rich breakfast. In the barn, the hosts invite the guests to dinner every Thursday (for a fee). A menu is freshly prepared from regional products – accompanied by fine wines from the Spornberg vineyard. A few years ago, they dared to start a vineyard, planted Burgundy vines in an exposed location and now press excellent blue and white Burgundy. Sustainability is very important to the Messner family and so 100 percent of the energy come from renewable sources.
